EMPORIA (KSNT) – The Flint Hills Technical College Foundation (FHTC) has received a grant from the Patterson Family Foundation that will be used to start a Mobile Dental Unit.
The FHTC announced on Tuesday, Sept. 16 that it has been granted $111,080 to be used in the college’s Dental Hygiene program. The program will help provide dental care to parts of Kansas that are classified as “dental deserts.”
The program will provide hands-on clinical training to FHTC students and help strengthen the oral health providers pipeline, according to FHTC.

“We wanted this grant for the mobile dental unit to expand hands-on learning for our students while supporting the ongoing need for skilled dental professionals in the communities we serve,” said Dean of Health and Human Services and Director of Dental Programs at FHTC Katherine Morgan.
The Mobile Dental unit will serve counties like Chase that currently have no dental providers. The unit will be staffed by licensed faculty who will supervise student clinicians. The Mobile Dental Unit is expected to begin operations in fall 2026.
