TOPEKA (KSNT) – Local high school students will be behind the scares this year for one weekend at a Berryton corn maze to help raise cash for upcoming activities and scholarship funds.
Students at Shawnee Heights High School are putting in the work this year at the Shively Farms Haunted corn maze to make sure guests walk away with a few scares in the days leading up to Halloween. The USD 450 students will be dressing up in the scariest outfits they can find to raise money for the Shawnee Heights Orchestra.
Ryan Masotto, director of the school’s orchestra, said this will be the second year the students have held this fundraiser. The event gives his students an opportunity to get in the Halloween spirit while also helping fund future activities.
“I’m not sure how scary they are, but they do try,” Masotto said.

The fundraiser runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 24-25 at Shively Farms located at 5840 Southeast Croco Road. A kid-friendly maze will run from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. prior to the adult corn maze opening. Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the gate.
Masotto said there will also be food trucks and live music courtesy of the Steve Kile Band on Oct. 24 and Typical Stereo on Oct. 25. Cash raised through ticket sales will go towards trips, scholarship funds and other ways to support the Shawnee Heights Orchestra.
“I’d love for them [guests] to come out and bring a lawn chair, enjoy food from one of our vendors,” Masotto said. “Come out and have a good time and help support our program.”
Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the gate on Oct. 24-25. You can buy tickets and learn more about Shively Farms by clicking here.
