EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia community partners and representatives will be breaking ground for a Flint Hills crossing project and QuikTrip next month.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the new roundabout area connecting the Turnpike to Graphic Arts Road, located across from Flint Hills Technical College, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7. A reception will take place at the Flint Hills Technical College Student Commons following the ceremony.
The event is being hosted by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, Emporia Main Street, the City of Emporia, Lyon County, Flint Hills Technical College and QuikTrip.
“This project has been years in the making, and it is a great example of collaboration between local government organizations,” said Emporia City Manager Trey Cocking. “We look forward to celebrating this next step together with the community.”
Energy line connecting Kansas to Missouri finishes early
Initial work on the project included the construction of a new roundabout north of the existing ones that connect Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike to U.S. Highway 50. The City of Emporia says the roundabout will improve traffic flow and provide direct access to the QuikTrip location.
Starting at 12:30 p.m., a bus service will take attendees between the reception area and the groundbreaking site from the back entrance near the Commons. The bus will return guests around 1 p.m. for the rest of the ceremony and reception.
