TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka West Charger Band lit up the night sky at Hummer Sports Park with their annual light show.
The ensemble’s annual light show dates back to 1993. It’s an opportunity for the band to showcase their talents to friends and family. Instead of a traditional marching show, the band adds a little twist as they cover themselves head to toe in colorful lights and perform in the dark.
“It’s such an honor, because it’s like, you really get to show your parents and your family just how much work we put in every single year, and there’s a lot of pretty lights, so that’s what kind of adds a little bit of fun towards it,” Senior Joey Westphal said.

“These are some of the greatest kids you’ll ever see,” Topeka West High School Director of Bands Barry Evans said. “Band music, band students, especially music students, they’re just a different kind of breed of kid, and they’re amazing, and I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
Before the light show, the band showed off their official performance for contests, and even invited parents to march on the field with their kids.
