TOPEKA (KSNT) – Shawnee County Treasurer Susan Duffy joined the 27 News morning show on Friday to discuss property taxes.
“It is tax time in Topeka,” Duffy said. “It’s just an exciting time of year for us in the county and especially in the Treasurer’s office.”
Duffy said that on Monday, Nov. 17 and Tuesday, Nov. 18, tax statements will be mailed out. Tax statements are already available online.
“They’re out there and they can be paid,” Duffy said. “And I want to assure the residents here and Shawnee County, we have a very safe way to pay, and that is with the ikan platform.”

However, Duffy wants the public to be careful when paying their taxes this year due to scams.
“So we strongly discourage folks using a third party entity other than ikan,” Duffy said. “For example, we had a taxpayer come in and she had gone to a third party site that had popped up and the money was pulled out of her account. She doesn’t know where it went, but it did not come to us and we could not find it. We called her bank. We tried to work with her to help her, but it was gone. So I am I really want to discourage people from using third party sites that are not on our website.”
