EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia State football dropped its last game of the season to Fort Hays State, 13-7.
The Tigers put 10 points on the board in the first quarter with a 41-yard field goal to open up the scoring and a six-yard touchdown run from quarterback Caleb Heavner.
Hornets senior kicker Caden Dodson missed a 21-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Emporia State would be shutout in the first half, 10-0.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Tigers would knock in a 43-yard field goal with seven minutes left to go in the game.
The Hornets were down 13 by points in the fourth quarter and have been shutout through three quarters.
Emporia State would score its first points of the game with 58 seconds to go with a 13-yard pass from Mason Dennis to Malik O’Atis.
Time would run out and the Hornets would avoid the shutout loss on senior day.
Quarterback Jamison Sarver would the leave the game at the end of the first quarter due to an injury, and Mason Dennis would step into the QB slot. Dennis went 23 of 37 for 189 yards with a touchdown.
Defensively for the Hornets, Landon Boss recorded two sacks on the day, totaling for 10 sacks this season.
Emporia State finishes the season 5-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
