TOPEKA (KSNT) – A major service for LGBTQ youth is starting in the Capital City.
Braided Haven is offering different types of help to LGBTQ youth, with a focus on children who have been kicked out of their homes. Up to eight 14-18 year-olds at a time in the community can find shelter for up to 90 days.
Beyond a place to stay, Braided Haven also provides food, life skill classes and counseling in their drop-in center. All of these services are free of charge.
Local expert says Kansans are ‘flocking’ to other states to avoid high property taxes
“They’re out, they’re couch surfing, they’re out on the streets,” said Darin Stephens, Braided Haven President. “They need to feel loved and supported when they’re in high school, the most critical times of their life as they’re preparing for out of high school and into the world.”
Direction on how to receive help from Braided Haven can be found on their website.
