KANSAS (KSNT) – The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) announced there will be increased law enforcement on the state’s highways during Thanksgiving week.
From Nov. 22-29, the KHP and other participating law enforcement agencies in Kansas will be conducting a national safety campaign called Thanksgiving Safe Arrival.
“KHP, along with law enforcement agencies across the state, will be on roadways enforcing Kansas’ traffic and occupant protection laws,” said KHP Superintendent Colonel Erik Smith. “Remember, seat belts are the best defense against impaired and distracted drivers. No matter how long or short your drive, it’s critical that drivers and passengers Buckle Up. Every Trip. Every Time.”
The KHP reports traffic greatly increases around Thanksgiving Day. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), three people died and 193 were injured in Kansas crashes last year.
