TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka is deploying its snowplows Monday to clear local roads and make driving conditions safer for residents.
The City of Topeka announced on social media that sent out 23 vehicles around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 for the purpose of plowing local roads in the Capital City. Snow crews started treating arterials, bridges and other hot spots throughout the night on Sunday, Nov. 30 ahead of the winter weather.
City officials report that an additional four contractors are working to help clear snow as well. Locals can keep up with their progress by heading to the City of Topeka’s snowplow tracking map.
The map will not display pre-treatment activities, but it will show updated information while snow plowing operations continue. If you are looking at the map, a darker blue line indicates that multiple passes have taken place since the start of plowing.
How much snow has fallen across Kansas on Monday?
The City of Topeka will update its map every 15 minutes. Contracted snow removal crews will also use this map to coordinate their efforts with the city.
City snowplows will not plow residential streets unless snow accumulation goes above six inches or unless the city manager directs otherwise. People are encouraged to practice safe driving while icy and slick conditions persist.
