KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is responding after a video went viral showing a referee falling after confronting a girl and issuing a technical foul during the varsity girls high school basketball game on Friday between Bonner Springs and Eudora.
KSHSAA released a statement on Monday saying it is aware of the incident on Jan. 16 and is continuing to review the incident.

Following talks with school leaders, medical personnel onsite, league assigners and the official, KSHSAA said “it was determined the appropriate course of action is to have the official, identified as Jeff Freeman, take a break from active officiating in order to pursue appropriate outcomes for the official and all stakeholders.”
KSHSAA said it recognizes Freeman has been a registered official for over 30 years, has officiated state championship contests in three different sports and is a retired educator.
Freeman also released a statement to FOX4 on Monday saying he has a medical condition and is visiting his neurologist on Tuesday and will have additional information after that.
“Ask my fellow officials, coaches, athletic directors, etc. about me. My reputation is stellar,” Freeman said in his statement. “I do not want any additional punishment to that player, coach, or school, it was not their fault.”
