LAWRENCE, Kan. — City officials and organizers in Lawrence, Kansas are sharing more details at Tuesday night’s commission meeting about which 2026 World Cup team will make its base camp in Lawrence and what that will mean for residents and businesses there.
According to Lawrence 2026, they say Jan. 31 is the day that teams officially will find out where their base camp will be and if Lawrence will have a base camp.

While Mayor Brad Finkeldei says he didn’t know which team would be at their base camp, he said he looks forward to making connections with any country connections with other countries.
“Rock Chalk Park will be where they practice, the Oread Hotel, close to the university will be where they are staying,” he said.
In terms of transportation, from June 11 to July 13, Lawrence will have direct bus services between Lawrence Central Station on Bob Billings Parkway and Union Station in Kansas City.
Ruth Dewitt, the community director for Explore Lawrence, said this is crucial for those that don’t have transportation from the nearby airports.
“We are going to have dedicated bus service right from Lawrence Central Station into Fan Fest, which we’re very excited about,” she said.
Lt. David Ernst with the Lawrence Police Department said they are working with multiple agencies to keep everyone safe.
“We are going to have a large amount of visitors and potentially a team here in Lawrence, Kansas, but also it’s a reflection on the greater Kansas City area, which we’re working collectively with all of our regional agencies in the Kansas City metro area.
