EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia State University is celebrating the opening of a brand-new Nursing and Student Wellness Building, marking a significant investment in health care education and student support on campus.
The facility features an 11-bed skills lab, two adaptable classrooms, a large student lounge, and five simulation rooms designed to give students hands-on training that mirrors real-world medical settings. The space allows nursing students to practice essential clinical skills such as wound care and taking vital signs before entering professional health care environments.
Interim President Taylor Kriley says the new building will have a lasting impact on both students and the state’s health care workforce.
“This is going to be a game changer for how we spark the curiosity and confidence of the future of the profession, address current workforce challenges in our own backyard for nursing and health care, and also build a happier, healthier Kansas,” said Kriley.
The Nursing and Student Wellness Building is the first facility constructed specifically for an Emporia State academic program in nearly 50 years. The $18.5 million project was completed without passing bonds or taking on university debt.
The building officially welcomed its first nursing classes on Jan. 20.
