MANHATTAN (KSNT) – The Sunflower Showdown never disappoints.
It was a two-point game through the opening 10 minutes, thanks in large part to Andrej Kostic off the bench for the Wildcats. He knocked in four straight three-pointers to give the Wildcats a boost off the bench.
The Jayhawks went into the half with a two point lead 37-35
K-State was hot in the first half from beyond the arc, shooting 42%.
Star guard PJ Haggerty struggled for the Wildcats in the first half. He didn’t get on the board until he knocked in two free throws around the two-minute mark. He was 0-5 from the field prior to that.
Bryson Tiller had a team-high 12 points at the break for the Jayhawks with Melvin Council right behind him with 11.
The ‘Hawks took flight in second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 49-27. The dominant second half performance led to a 86-62 Kansas win.
K-State struggled from beyond the arc in the second half, going from 42% to just 20% on three-point shooting.
Flory Bidunga was red hot for the Jayhawks, with a double-double. Bidunga had 21 points and 10 rebounds, going 10 of 13 from the floor.
Elmarko Jackson wasn’t far behind, with 19 points off the bench.
Despite a quiet first half, P.J. Haggerty still lead the way for the ‘Cats with 23 points on the night, 18 of those coming in the second half. Andrej Kostic had 12 points off the bench, going four of seven from three.
The Jayhawks are back at home next Saturday to host No. 13 BYU apart of College Gameday.
K-State will hit the road Tuesday, heading to Morgantown to take on West Virginia.
