FORT RILEY (KSNT) – Fort Riley has a new tool in its arsenal.
The Army post announced the activation of its new unmanned aircraft unit. “Foxtrot Company” will work to prevent helicopter pilots from flying into danger by helping detect distant threats.
“It’s war-fighting readiness,” said Eric Megerdoomian from Fort Riley. ”As we develop this capability we’re really doing is we’re giving them the tools and equipment and the time and the talent and the focus really to be able to generate this capability for the Big Red One. And this gives the 1st Infantry Division the opportunity to be able to go and accomplish the missions that our country asks us to accomplish.”
“The Army’s been without a U.S. platform. Some of these guys haven’t flown for two years, and they’re finally going to get a chance to get their hands on some new kit and get back [to] flying in the air,” said Captain Paul Shorkey-Chacon from Fort Riley.
In addition to surveillance, the soldiers of Fox Company will be able to deploy assets, clearing a path for aircraft and ground troops.
