TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local preschool celebrated Kansas Day early at the Flint Hills Discovery Center on Tuesday.
The FHDC Education Team brought in the state reptile, the ornate box turtle, as well as a western hognose snake, to Sheldon Head Start School in west Topeka on Jan. 27. The goal is to teach the children about the state’s reptiles and to not be scared of snakes.
“This is awesome for me, especially, I have a son that goes here too, so I got to see him interact with it,” said Andy Land, seasonal educator at the FHDC. “It’s always good whenever you get to teach the young ones that are coming up about the outdoors and educate them on things.”
