TOPEKA (KSNT) – Law enforcement is releasing new information following a deadly crash in Topeka that left a local man dead.
Police were called around 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 to the area near where Southwest 21st Street meets Laird Noller Way in central Topeka on reports of an injury crash. First responders arriving at the scene found one person dead at the scene. The Topeka Police Department later identified the crash victim as 36-year-old Jared Wilcox.
A crash report filed by the TPD and obtained by 27 News shows additional information related to the crash and Wilcox’s death.

Two vehicles were traveling west in the 600 block of Southwest 21st Street in the right lane of traffic, according to the police report. One vehicle, referred to as the witness vehicle, was slightly ahead of the other, a Honda CRV.
The driver of the witness vehicle started to slow down due to someone traveling along the dividing line of the left and right lane of westbound Southwest 21st Street, according to the police report. This individual, identified as Wilcox, was traveling with an apparent motorized bike.

The driver of the Honda allegedly began to move around the witness vehicle as it slowed down and didn’t see Wilcox in the roadway, according to the police report. The Honda then struck Wilcox, who was standing in the road beside the bike, as it changed lanes.
Topeka police noted several items found at the scene including debris, a phone, a shoe and goggles. Police also note no evidence of impairment with the driver of the Honda in the report.
