FORT RILEY (KSNT) – Numerous civilian staff at Fort Riley Army Post are on unpaid leave this week due to a lapse in federal funds.
Fort Riley announced on social media on Feb. 3 that a lapse in federal appropriations has resulted in many civilian employees being placed in furlough status. This means staff are on unpaid leave while the lapse in funding persists.
Many services at Fort Riley are being impacted as a result of this situation. Civilian staff will not be answering emails and phone calls, many social media channels will be unmonitored and some other services may be limited or temporarily unavailable. Normal operations will resume once federal funds are restored.
A partial federal government shutdown began on Jan. 31, 2026. However, unlike the 43-day shutdown in 2025, it is not expected to last for long, according to a report from The Hill. Fort Riley civilian staff were also placed in furlough status last year during the 2025 shutdown.
