TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka celebrated 50 years of cardiac surgery — a celebration of the evolution of cardiac surgery technology.
The celebration of cardiac technology included a cake cutting ceremony with Dr. Paul Kindling attending the event. Kindling was one of the surgeons who performed the first open-heart surgery at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Former Chief Medical Officer for Stormont Vail, Kent Palmberg, spoke about how far cardiac surgery technology has come.
“Technology has changed dramatically over the many, many years. Compared to what we were doing 50 years ago to what we do today,” Palmberg said. “I don’t know if you could even recognize it. It has changed that much.”
