TOPEKA (KSNT) – A representative with the Kansas Forest Service joined the 27 News Morning Show on Friday to chat about wildfire season.
Shawna Hartman with the KFS joined 27 News on Feb. 20 to talk about wildfire season in 2026 and the impact that several recent large wildfires have had on the state this month. She said March and April are typically the main wildfire seasons in Kansas, with another fire season coming in the fall.
“Ninety percent, over 90% of our wildfires are from human action,” Hartman said. “And so, preventing wildfires really is in our hands as far as what we can do as humans to moderate our activities on those high wildfire danger days.”
