TOPEKA (KSNT) – Firefighters put out a house fire in central Topeka on Wednesday evening.
The Topeka Fire Department responded to a two-story house fire at around 4:34 p.m. on Feb. 25 at 420 Southwest Woodlawn Avenue. Fire crews experienced heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the house.
According to Public Relations Specialist Kimberly Qualls of Topeka, TFD conducted a search of the house and found two dogs and one cat. One of the dogs was administered CPR, but it could not be revived by first responders. There were no other occupants in the house at the time of the fire.
TFD determined that it was an electrical fire and that there were smoke detectors found in the home.
“The Topeka Fire Department reminds residents that working smoke alarms are a critical first
line of defense in a home fire and encourages all residents to ensure smoke alarms are properly
installed and maintained.”
