TOPEKA (KSNT) – Clay County residents voted to approve a $10 million school bond on March 3 that would go towards security updates, maintenance projects and facility upgrades for schools across USD 379.
Voters in USD 379 participated in a school bond election on Tuesday, March 3 to confirm or deny a $10.25 million bond that would go towards facility upgrades for five different schools across the district. Some of the facility upgrades would include ADA-compliance upgrades, new bus lanes and updated security. Vote totals for the school bond election show that 85.6% voted to approve the school bond and 14.3% voted against it, with 95% of the precincts reporting.
The five schools the bond would go towards include:
- Lincoln Elementary School
- Garfield Elementary School
- Clay Center Community Middle School
- Clay Center Community High School
- Wakefield K-12 School
According to the school district, the bond is tax-neutral and when passed the current tax rate will be extended and mill levy rates will stay the same. The final vote will be canvassed in a later date.
