LAWRENCE (KSNT) – A Sunflower Showdown sweep for the Jayhawks.
Kansas men’s basketball (22-9, 12-6 Big 12) takes down K-State (12-19, 3-15 Big 12) 104-85 to win on senior day and complete the Sunflower Showdown sweep.
Darryn Peterson dropped a game-high 27 points in the win for Kansas. Tre White scored 23 on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
PJ Haggerty and Nate Johnson had 21 each in the loss for K-State. Khamari McGriff added 17.
The Jayhawks led 46-33 after the first half. Peterson and Melvin Council led all scorers with 11 in the first. Council would finish 17 in likely his last game in Allen Fieldhouse.
Haggerty had 10 for the Wildcats in the opening 20 minutes.
The Jayhawks shot an outstanding 59.2% in the win.
As per tradition, Bill Self started all seniors against the Wildcats. Jayden Dawson, Tre White, Wilder Evers, Justin Cross, and Council all got the start on Saturday.
“It’s crazy. The atmosphere was amazing,” senior guard Melvin Council said. “I love Kansas. I love everything about being here,” freshman guard Darryn Peterson added.”
Both teams now look ahead to the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City from March 10-14.
K-State will likely play BYU on Tuesday, while Kansas will have a double-bye and play on Thursday.
