TOPEKA (KSNT) – With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, people in Topeka are getting ready for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday.
Organizers are making final preparations for the March 14 event, getting floats, parade routes and festivities ready before the celebration begins. The parade is organized by the Irish Club of Topeka and requires months of planning and coordination with local officials.
President of the Irish Club of Topeka Dan Sheehy said planning for the parade begins long before March.
“We’ve got a great working relationship with TPD and the city as well,” Sheehy said. “That usually starts about six months before the parade, when we begin planning the groundwork and what the parade route is going to be.”
Organizers said the parade is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate Irish culture and traditions. Each year the event brings residents and visitors downtown to watch the floats, enjoy the festivities and take part in the holiday celebration.
