TOPEKA (KSNT) – City officials are inviting locals to weigh in on the 2027 Topeka city budget as local leaders seek to address a $15 million deficit.
The City of Topeka announced on March 16 that local residents can now take part in a short community survey to share their biggest priorities with city leaders for the 2027 budget process. City leaders will use the comments from the public to help guide decisions on which services and programs should be the highest priority as they put together the newest budget.
The City of Topeka is addressing an estimated $15 million budget deficit, making the community input more important as leaders take advice from locals on funding priorities across city services. Topeka City Manager called the budget shortfall “significant” in a press release on March 16.
“Community feedback is a critical part of the budgeting process,” said Topeka City Manager Robert Perez. “As we work to address a significant budget shortfall, we want to hear directly from residents about the services they value most. Their input will help guide thoughtful decisions about how we allocate resources and continue serving the community.”

Topekans can take part in the survey from Monday, March 16 through to Friday, April 17. City leaders will look over the feedback they receive as part of this survey later in the year as part of the budget planning process for the city for 2027.
Local residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to share their views on which services and programs should receive priority funding. You can take part in the survey by clicking here.
