TOPEKA (KSNT) – This Women’s History Month, we are taking a look at the world of Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts of the USA serves girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Members learn the fundamentals of community service and develop skills such as camping, horseback riding and, of course, selling cookies.
The three “C’s” of Girl Scouts are courage, confidence and character, a lesson one local scout leader said goes back generations.
“My mother was a Girl Scout leader,” said Melissa Bach, a leader of the Topeka branch of the Girl Scouts of the USA in Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri. “My daughter was a Girl Scout leader, and now my granddaughter is a Girl Scout. I think that it’s really important to be able to expose young ladies like this to women in leadership roles and to show them how to be confident and courageous and kind. And so that’s why I joined this troop, to be their Girl Scout leader.”
