TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Department of Transportation announced that southbound K-4 ramp access has changed on Thursday afternoon.
KDOT announced in a social media post on March 19 that the traffic switch has officially started, with access from the southbound K-4 ramp that changed to only connect traffic to the single lane going westbound on U.S. 24 Highway via a temporary crossover. Ramp traffic will only be merged onto westbound U.S. 24 with access to southbound K-4 and Oakland Expressway closed.
A detour will take drivers on westbound U.S. 24 to Topeka Boulevard, then back onto eastbound U.S. 24 to access south K-4 and the Oakland Expressway. The traffic change will remain in place until the summer when southbound K-4 ramp closes.

The traffic change is part of KDOT’s and the City of Topeka’s U.S. 24 Highway improvement project that started in July 2023 near North Kansas Avenue in Topeka that extends out to Muddy Creek in Jefferson County. It is expected the project will be completed in 2027. According to KDOT, the project is underway to increase safety, streamline access and enhance economic development opportunities.
