WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Hospital staff report a two-year-old child is dead following a crash on I-70 in Wabaunsee County last weekend.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 15 on I-70 eastbound near mile-marker 336 or close by the Paxico Rest Area in Wabaunsee County. The crash involved only one vehicle: a 2007 Ford F-150 with five people inside.

The driver of the F-150 was traveling east on the highway when, for an unknown reason, she left the road to the right. The driver overcorrected, crossed the eastbound lanes and hit a limestone embankment in the median.
The F-150’s driver, a 39-year-old Topeka woman, had minor injuries as a result of the crash with medical personnel taking her to a Topeka hospital for treatment. Three other passengers, all teenagers, had minor injuries.
The KHP said the fifth occupant of the vehicle, identified as Diora L. Lewis, was critically injured following the crash. She was improperly secured in the F-150 as she was seated on the lap of the front passenger.
First responders transported Lewis to a Kansas City hospital for treatment, according to the KHP. However, medical staff declared her dead on Wednesday, March 18.
