TOPEKA (KSNT) – City of Topeka workers are receiving delayed payments this week due to an alleged approval error on Friday.
City of Topeka spokesman Dan Garrett told 27 News that, because of an approval error at around 8 a.m., city staffers did not get their paychecks on the morning of March 20. He said that city workers immediately took action to fix the situation, taking care of the error by noon.
Garrett said City of Topeka staffers should have received their pay at a slightly delayed time at 1:30 p.m. on March 20. However, some city staffers, depending on the banks they use, may not see the deposits until next week on Monday, March 23.
City of Topeka Mayor Spencer Duncan told 27 News he believes a system or process glitch caused the error on Friday morning. He said it is not known yet whether the problem was caused by a technical issue or human error or a combination of the two.
Duncan said city staffers quickly jumped on the problem. He said the good news with this is that the problem was quickly solved.
“Bad news is it shouldn’t happen,” Duncan said. “My job now is to make sure it doesn’t happen again and figure out what went wrong.”
