SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Topeka area drivers can expect to be slowed down while using Highway 40 starting next week due to a mill and overlay project.
Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation said in a press release that workers will be starting the project on Monday, March 30. Work will take place on the highway between Tecumseh Road and the westbound K-4 ramps.

Craft said the highway will be restricted to one lane, with drivers being forced to wait and be directed by a pilot car and flaggers. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes in this area.
KDOT will also have a 12-foot width restriction in place through the work zone. Workers will be present during daylight hours from Monday to Friday for this project which is anticipated to be finished by April 2026.
