EMPORIA (KSNT) – Staff at the Emporia zoo reported Monday that two of its animals have died.
The David Traylor Zoo announced on March 30 the deaths of two of its resident animals: a Netherland dwarf rabbit named Twix and a llama named Lucky. The zoo said that both animals were well-loved and appreciated among staff and visitors.
Twix served as a Zoo Education Ambassador, spending his time connecting the community to wildlife through educational programming and outreach. He participated in many children’s programs, making frequent visits to libraries, classrooms, nursing homes and more.
Lucky arrived at the David Traylor Zoo at 10 months old alongside her fellow llama Hershey. She could often be seen grazing alongside Hershey at the zoo and was known for her strong bond with the zoo’s staff that built up over her 12-year stay.

“These animals each played an important role in helping visitors connect with the zoo in meaningful ways,” said Executive Zoo Director, Brenda Young. “They will be greatly missed.”
The David Traylor Zoo stated that Lucky died due to cancer. Twix suffered an aneurysm.
