EMPORIA (KSNT) – City officials report a sinkhole has appeared in downtown Emporia on Sunday.
City of Emporia officials said that, at this time, the cause of the hole is unknown, and work is expected to begin on Monday, March 30 to identify the source of the problem. A spokesperson from the city said a 44-inch storm sewer and 10-inch waterline run through the area and will be carefully evaluated during the work.

Commercial Street will remain closed between Ninth Avenue and 10th Avenue until the issue is resolved. The sinkhole can be seen near the corner of 10th Avenue and Commercial Street.
