GEARY COUNTY (KSNT) – State troopers report a Topeka man is hospitalized after a semi truck hit him on I-70 in Geary County early Sunday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on I-70 in the westbound lanes near mile-marker 290 a short distance west of Junction City. A 2017 Nissan Altima was parked on the right shoulder of I-70 west while a 2021 freightliner semi truck was traveling west on the highway.
The driver of the Nissan left his vehicle and walked into the lanes of the highway, according to the KHP. The semi truck then hit the driver as he walked across the right-hand lane.
The KHP said the driver of the Nissan, identified as a 20-year-old Topeka man, was taken to a Topeka-area hospital for treatment. The 49-year-old New Mexico driver of the semi truck was unharmed.
