TOPEKA (KSNT) — Community leaders, business owners and residents gathered at the Stormont Vail Event Center on Thursday for the Greater Topeka Partnership’s annual meeting to celebrate another year of growth and recognized community achievements with awards.
The Greater Topeka Partnership (GTP), which leads efforts tied to economic development, tourism, downtown revitalization and business support, used the event on April 2, to reflect on this past year and look ahead to what’s next for the Capitol City.
GTP Chief Executive Officer Molly Howey said one of the accomplishments she is most proud of is the progress being made on housing development projects across Topeka.
“So that’s something that I think really resonates with the community and something we’ve needed for quite some time, and it’s not all finished yet, but some are really under construction, and others are budding and starting construction here pretty soon,” Howey said.
Housing has become a major focus of the partnership’s broader growth strategy as leaders aim to attract more residents, support workforce needs and strengthen downtown development efforts. The organization has also continued to invest in projects to bring more business and innovation to downtown Topeka.
Howey said downtown Topeka has made significant progress in recent years, and the next step is to build on that momentum with strategies to keep the area growing and attract people across northeast Kansas.
The annual meeting also included awards recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to Topeka’s growth over the past year.
