SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is inviting local students to learn, grow and have fun through its annual Youth Academy, scheduled for the first two weeks of June 2026.
Sheriff Brian C. Hill announced the free summer program will be hosted at two local schools—Seaman Middle School and Washburn Rural North Middle School—offering hands-on learning experiences for incoming sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students.
“Our goal is to create positive interactions between law enforcement officers and the youth of Shawnee County,” Hill said. “We want students to leave with stronger life skills, increased confidence and a better understanding of what it means to be a good citizen.”

The Youth Academy focuses on teamwork, physical fitness and age-appropriate law enforcement education. Participants will take part in interactive activities designed to encourage good decision-making, build self-esteem and promote leadership skills—all in a fun, structured environment.
The program will be offered in two sessions, with students allowed to attend only one due to limited space. Each session runs from 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Thursday.
- Session One: June 2–4 at Seaman Middle School
- Session Two: June 9–11 at Washburn Rural North Middle School
Registration is now open and applications must be submitted by May 4. Parents and guardians can apply online and clicking the “2026 Youth Academy” button.
