OTTAWA, Kan. — Multiple people have been injured after severe storms in both Franklin and Miami counties caused significant damage Monday night.
Severe storms, confirmed tornadoes cause damage south of Kansas City metro
The Franklin County, Kansas Sheriff’s Office has reported that three people in rural areas of the county have been injured during Monday’s intense storms.
One other injury has been reported, and 50 homes have been damaged in Miami County. In response, the county has opened a shelter at the Hillsdale Learning Center on West 255th Street for residents in need.
Franklin County deputies will continue to check for rural damage and for anyone in need of assistance, according to the sheriff’s office.
Emergency personnel across both counties are asking that people stay home and off the roads as crews work to clear affected areas.
