MANHATTAN (KSNT) – It was all Jayhawks in Game 1.
No. 16 Kansas (31-11, 15-4 Big 12) run-ruled K-State (26-16, 9-10 Big 12) 18-8 in Game 1 on Friday night in seven innings.
The Jayhawks scored in every inning but the fifth, racking up 17 hits on the night.
Dariel Osoria had himself a night, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with six RBIs, including a home run in the sixth. He was a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
“I was just really trying to go up there and put up some really good swings. Just try to hit the pitch and put bat to ball,” Osoria said. “It was good to try and get the win, the first one out of this long weekend but just got to move on and focus on tomorrow.”
Josh Dykhoff was 3-for-5 with three RBIs including a two-run shot in the seventh to secure the run-rule.
Brady Ballinger also had three hits to go with three RBIs. Jordan Bach, Cade Baldridge and Tyson Owens had two hits each in the win.
Mason Cook earned the win on the mound. Through 4.2 innings, he allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned).
For K-State, Shintaro Inoue and Grant Gallagher each had three hits in the loss. Inoue had a two-run home run in the fifth and led the team with three RBIs.
Dee Kennedy and Bear Madliak each had an RBI.
James Guyette took the loss for the Wildcats. He allowed eight hits and nine runs (five earned) over two innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Game 2 of the Sunflower Showdown is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
