TOPEKA (KSNT) – Overnight storms brought flooding to parts of Topeka, including inside a local coffee shop.
When employees arrived at Circle Coffee Co. early in the morning on April 27, they were met with standing water across the floor. The worst of the flooding was in a back storage closet, where water pooled much deeper.
Owner David Vincent said the bakery crew were the first to discover the damage.
“They walked into a floor full of water this morning, and then our storage closet got the worst of it… just standing water in there,” Vincent said.

In the main shop area, there was about an inch or two of water. Vincent estimates there was around a foot of water in the storage space. Despite the conditions, staff worked quickly to clean up the mess, using buckets and mops to remove water and clear out damaged items.
“It was a close call; we got everything mopped up right before open,” Vincent said. “Just had to take buckets, get everything thrown out of here, and mop and shop back up as much as we could.”

The shop lost a few hundred dollars of product in the storage closet that had been submerged, but no major structural damage was reported. Vincent said the business has dealt with minor water issues before, but nothing this severe. He believes the water may have entered through the back of the building and said that staff plan to check drainage and gutters to prevent future problems.
