TOPEKA (KSNT) – Parks staff report that a popular mini-train for kids and families at Gage Park will be temporarily closed this spring.
Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) announced in a social media post on May 1 that its Gage Park mini-train will be unavailable for the next few weeks. This is due to ongoing work at the park’s carousel building.
Shawnee County leaders approved of renovations at the carousel in early 2026. The closure of the carousel is expected to last into 2027.

SCP+R said that, to accommodate work at the revamped carousel, the train tracks are being shifted a short distance. The carousel will be closed throughout this process and is expected to reopen next year “completely transformed.”
“This is just the first step in a much bigger transformation. While the work is underway, the train will be temporarily closed, with hopes to reopen around Summer.”
