TOPEKA (KSNT) – Five Hornet baseball players picked up conference honors for their efforts in the regular season, the MIAA announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Colby Deaver has been named the MIAA Pitcher of the Year, as well as a unanimous First Team selection.
Deaver led the conference with 87.0 innings pitched and a 1.45 ERA, recording 86 strikeouts. He also led Division II in ERA and WHIP (0.84), among other categories. The Blue Springs, MO native is the first Hornet to be named MIAA Pitcher of the Year since Seth Holman in 2018.
Logan Myers was another unanimous First Team All-MIAA selection, also picking up a Gold Glove for his performance at second base.
The junior held a .411 batting average with 21 doubles and 37 RBIs. Myers has a 1.000 fielding percentage, assisting in 32 double plays across the season.
Noah Steele received First-Team All-MIAA honors, setting career-highs in multiple stats across the season.
The senior batted .397, with 16 homers, 65 RBIs, and 11 steals.
Senior Grant Huffman earned the lone relief spot for First Team All-MIAA honors.
The right-hander holds a 1.64 ERA with eight saves. Huffman has allowed no earned runs in 16 of his 20 regular season relief appearances.
Evan Abbott received Third Team All-MIAA honors, as well as being named conference Freshman of the Year.
The outfielder holds a .345 average with 15 doubles, eight home runs, and 52 RBIs.
The Hornets are back in action on May 7 to take on Missouri Southern in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
