TOPEKA (KSNT) – One person is dead and several people, including a firefighter and two Topeka police officers, are injured after a Monday morning fire.
Firefighters with the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) responded to reports of a residential fire around 4 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the 100 block of Northeast Coachlight Drive in north Topeka. Fire crews found one home on fire at the scene.
City of Topeka spokesman Dan Garrett said fire crews found one juvenile dead at the scene. Medical personnel transported another juvenile and an adult to a local hospital for treatment of their life-threatening injuries. Another adult from the home also received care for non-life-threatening injuries.
Medical personnel also treated two Topeka police officers, one TFD firefighter and a bystander for non-life-threatening injuries they received during the fire situation, according to the City of Topeka.

Garrett said the TFD’s initial investigation has shown an accidental electrical fire caused the blaze. No working smoke detectors were located inside the home. The American Red Cross is assisting the family of the home.
