TOPEKA (KSNT) – Workers are preparing to close part of Southwest Topeka Boulevard this Thursday as part of an ongoing road construction project.
Robert Bidwell with the City of Topeka said in a press release that, beginning on Sept. 10, workers will be starting the next phase of construction on Southwest Topeka Boulevard. This phase will include the closure of the boulevard’s southbound lanes from Southwest 17th Street to Southwest 19th Street.
Bidwell said that Southwest 17th Street will also be shut down on the west side of Southwest Topeka Boulevard. A detour route will direct drivers around this closure.
- Eastbound Southwest 17th Street detour – north on Washburn Avenue and Lane Street, turn east on Southwest Huntoon Street and move south on South Kansas Avenue.
- Westbound Southwest 17th Street detour – head north on South Kansas Avenue, turn west onto Southwest 12th Street and move south on Washburn Avenue.

Drivers will be restricted to one southbound lane and a single northbound line while this work is ongoing, according to the City of Topeka. Drivers will still be able to use Southwest 17th Street to the east of Southwest Topeka Boulevard.
