TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka Public Schools Superintendent Tiffany Anderson joined 27 News and anchor David George on Tuesday morning’s newscast. She addressed possible changes impacting school resource officers in Topeka Public Schools, as well as upcoming events.
The Topeka City Council is considering the 2027 operating budget. Anderson said one proposal would allow the city’s SRO contract with Topeka Public Schools to expire.
“We’ve had a 20-plus year relationship with the Topeka Police Department,” Anderson said. “They fund, that’s the city, they fund our officers in our middle schools and tonight they’ll [the City Council] be voting on their budget. And one of the cuts may well be the Topeka Police Department officers.”
The Topeka City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the 2027 operating budget during its Tuesday meeting. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be livestreamed on the City of Topeka’s website.

Anderson also mentioned upcoming events, including homecoming, Family Fitness Fun Night and a jacketing ceremony for college prep students. She said that on Sept. 22, the Topeka Public Schools Foundation will celebrate 40 years of supporting local students through community donations.
“This is really a fun time,” Anderson said. “We are so excited about this season and all the things to come.”
