WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Sheriff’s deputies in Wabaunsee County took action Tuesday to help multiple children after their school bus became disabled on the side of a highway.
Wabaunsee County Sheriff Eric Kirsch shared in a social media post that deputies responded to reports of a broken-down school bus shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 on westbound I-70. He said deputies moved quickly to get to the scene as the bus had no air conditioning and 24 children aboard during a continued period of hot weather.
Kirsch said county personnel helped arrange for substitute transportation options to be sent to the scene while deputies also assisted by getting the kids out of the heat. He said a replacement bus later arrived to help get the children to their destinations.
“Huge thanks to everyone who dropped what they were doing and helped,” Kirsch said in a social media post. “Shout-out to AMR for heading out as precaution. When kids need us, nobody worries about whose job it technically is, we just get it done.”
