TOPEKA (KSNT) – The head of an organization focused on promoting all that Topeka has to offer is set to leave Kansas for Colorado.
Rhett Flood, the new president of Downtown Topeka, Inc., announced in a press release on Sept. 9 that Sean Dixon will be stepping down from his role as president of Visit Topeka later this year. Dixon has accepted a job as president and CEO of Visit Colorado Springs.
“Sean has been a tremendous leader for Visit Topeka and an outstanding advocate for our community,” said Molly Howey, CEO of the Greater Topeka Partnership (GTP). “Over the past six years, he has helped strengthen Topeka’s tourism industry, elevate our destination’s profile, and build a strong foundation for future growth. While we are certainly sad to see him leave, we are excited for this next chapter in his career and wish him continued success in Colorado Springs.”
Dixon has served as president of the organization for six years. Flood said some of Dixon’s noteworthy accomplishments during his time as president of Visit Topeka include championing tourism development efforts in the Capital City, expanding the community’s reach as a destination for visitors and helping lead the effort to transition Hotel Topeka into private ownership.
“Serving Topeka and Shawnee County has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Dixon said. “This community welcomed me and my family from day one, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. From expanding sports tourism opportunities and launching new visitor experiences to supporting transformational projects that will benefit our community for years to come, none of it would have been possible without an exceptional team and outstanding community partners. While I am excited for this new challenge in Colorado Springs, I leave knowing Visit Topeka is in great hands and that the team will continue to do amazing things for this community.”

Flood said the GTP is now getting ready to start a national search for Visit Topeka’s next president. More information about this search process will be released in the coming weeks.
