TOPEKA (KSNT) – Jessica Buchholz and Sarah Megredy with Emporia Main Street joined 27 News anchor David George on Thursday morning’s newscast to discuss upcoming in Emporia.
Buchholz and Megredy talked about the upcoming Great American Market which will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, in Emporia. The market will span several city blocks and feature a variety of crafts, art pieces, clothes and more for attendees to browse and purchase.
“We have hundreds of vendors that come downtown,” Buchholz said. “It’s always the second Saturday of September so people can mark those calendars and it’s just a great opportunity to come and visit downtown and check out all the different local shops and food trucks and boutiques.”
The pair also discussed the upcoming Apella Weekend running from Sept. 18 to Sept. 20. Graduates of Emporia High School are encouraged to attend and reconnect with old friends during this class reunion event.

“Well, it’s called Apella and that means like an ancient Spartan assembly,” Buchholz said. “And so, Emporia High School is home of the Spartans, so we felt that that was fitting.”
Buchholz also talked about the Freedom Fest coming to Emporia on Nov. 7. She said this is a great time as the event shows off all that Emporia has to offer.
“It is an event that kind of encompasses all [of] the great things about Emporia,” Buchholz said. “We’re the home of Veterans Day. There’s disc golf, there’s cycling, there’s a ruck march.”
