SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Commission (SNCO) met Thursday morning and approved an independent contractor to provide engineering services for data center developments.
The commission met and issued a request for engineering services on proposed data centers earlier this year in July. According to the SNCO, the commission received one request from Cook, Flatt & Strobes Engineers (CFS).
Commissioners awarded CFS the bid on Sept. 10. The company will provide independent engineering services related to data center projects.
“The firm will review site plans and assist the County in evaluating technical issues and developing potential conditions addressing areas such as noise, light, stormwater and wastershed impacts, cooling fluid disposal and construction compliance,” said Amanda Monhollon, spokeswoman for the SNCO in a press release.

The basic services the firm agreed to includes:
“Review data center zoning, land-use, and development applications. These reviews may involve civil infrastructure, transportation, stormwater, utilities, environmental considerations, public safety, and other technical issues associated with each applicaton.”

On Wednesday, Shawnee County’s Land Use & Development team deemed the conditional use permit application for Compass Datacenter as complete. Despite the completed application, Monhollon said the engineering review doesn’t constitute approval of the proposed conditional use permit.
