TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) reflected on the events of 9/11, by honoring the victims and first responders.
The TFD honor guard held a remembrance ceremony today with a traditional bell and bagpipe service. It was a chance for local firefighters to spotlight the heroism of first responders while reflecting on how the events of the day that shaped their own lives.
Division Chief of Emergency Medical Services Ty Forshee told 27 News that the tragedy stands out as a defining moment in American history, 25 years later.
“I remember turning the TV on, and a minute later was about when the second plane hit, Forshee said. “We knew at that moment that it just, this wasn’t normal, that this was obviously some sort of attack. And, you know, we had the idea that this is going to change the country forever.”
The ceremony included a remembrance for the 343 members of the New York Fire Department who lost their lives on Sept. 11.
