TOPEKA (KSNT) – Drivers may need to slow down when traveling west of Topeka on I-70 due to pavement patching work next week.
Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) said in a press release that workers with Iowa Civil Contracting Inc. will be conducting a $1.4 million project on I-70 west of Topeka starting on Monday, Sept. 21. She said the work will consist of a five-mile stretch of I-70 running between Southwest Valencia Road and Southwest Urish Road.

Craft said traffic will be brought down to a single lane through the work zone on westbound I-70. Once work has concluded on westbound I-70, workers will shift to the eastbound lanes.
Workers will be closing some highway ramps in the project area as needed, according to KDOT. Traffic control will stay in place during non-work hours.

Craft said the project will take place during daylight hours between Monday and Friday during the work week until mid-December. If work still needs to be completed, workers will resume project operations in the spring of 2027.
