EMPORIA (KSNT) — The ‘Bods bend but don’t break as they pick up a rivalry win.
Washburn volleyball (16-3, 5-1 MIAA) defeated Emporia State (15-3, 2-2 MIAA) 3-2 in the Turnpike Tussle.
The Ichabods took the first set in commanding fashion, winning 25-18.
The Hornets inched closer in the second set, but Washburn still took the 25-22 win.
ESU fought off the sweep with a 25-22 win in set three.
Emporia State would use that momentum to win the fourth set, 25-19.
Washburn would bounce back to take the fifth set, 15-13 and win the rivalry 3-2.
Hayden Meats led the ‘Bods in kills with 16, while Emma Siron added 24 assists. Taylor Rottinghaus added 17 digs.
For the Hornets, Lavra Krizanic had 15 kills. Brailee Bogle had a whopping 47 assists, and Miyu Tsurumaki tabbed 21 digs.
Up next, Washburn will take on Central Missouri on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., while ESU will visit Northeastern State on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.
