TOPEKA (KSNT) – City staff are preparing to host a trunk-or-treat event in Topeka’s downtown area later this month and are inviting local families to take part in the festivities.
City of Topeka staff announced in a press release that the annual trunk or treat event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Evergy Plaza. Families and others are invited to stop by for an evening featuring activities and free candy.
First responders, community partners and others will be in attendance for the event to pass out candy to guests. Trunk-or-treat night will also feature crafts, music, games, a costume contest and a car show.
“Our Trunk or Treat is all about bringing the community together in a safe, welcoming environment,” said Topeka City Manager Robert Perez. “We’re thrilled to see our first responders and community partners come together to make this event possible. Events like the Trunk or Treat really give us a chance to connect with our community while creating lasting memories.”
City staff said the theme for 2026 is “Classic Costumes,” marking a celebration of Halloween staples such as mummies, werewolves, vampires and witches. People can participate in the theme for the evening or choose to dress up in different family-friendly costumes.

“This event is more than just fun, it’s about building community,” said Monique Glaude’, director of the Office of Inclusive Communities. “When families can connect with first responders, city workers, community partners, and neighbors in a safe and welcoming space, it strengthens the trust and relationships that make Topeka such a special place to live.”
Topeka police recommend people take photos of their kids while they are in their costumes prior to the event in case they lose track of their children.
